9. Dry Fly Fishing With Stoneflies and Salmonflies

Fishing the golden stone and salmonfly hatches on the Deschutes River is one of the most exciting times for trout anglers in the west. Although this hatch is notoriously difficult to hit on the right day, if you are lucky enough to be there when its “going off” you are in for a real treat. This short video from RA Beattie is just fantastic. The close-up and slow motion shots are some of the best I’ve seen and are extremely difficult to capture in the rugged environment of the Deschutes. Great bow and arrow casts from Jake Dodd and the narration is accurate and well-presented. I enjoy this type of fishing as much or more than any other and this video shows why.

Stellar work on this film gentlemen.
Tomorrow…No. 8 you will appreciate. That’s no bull.

19. The Town Ninja

This summer, film makers RA Beattie and Steven Yochum teamed up to produce a sweet short about a young anglers (Timmy Yochum) daily life which revolves around work and fly fishing (something we can all relate to!). Shot in and slightly upstream of Bend Oregon, this is yet another crisp edit from RA who is one of the very best in the business and is a fixture on the film tours. The film seems very real, with no pretension, and it works well with the mix of in-town and on-stream fishing shots. The use of soundtrack, narration, and great slo-mo camera work make this effort very rewarding to watch.

Great job to RA, Steven and Timmy!
#18 is up tomorrow!
